"Marriages Don't Break Up On Account Of Murder - It's Just A Symptom That Something Else Is Wrong" is the eighth episode of the first season of CBS All Access' Why Women Kill, and the eighth episode overall. It was released on October 3, 2019.

Synopsis[]

Beth Ann recruits Sheila to help pull off her faux diagnosis, taking her already far-fetched plan another step too far. As Simone and Tommy arrange their European rendezvous, a revelation may foil their plans. Taylor reaches out to Jade in hopes of helping Eli battle addiction, but his newfound riches have Jade only seeing green.[1]

Plot[]

Cold Opening[]

April, Tommy and Jade open up about death and the sins they have committed. April decides not to tell Rob she's pregnant and asks God for forgiveness, Tommy thinks of proposing to Simone and thanks God for sending her to him and Jade plans to deny about her involvement of putting Eli back to his addiction and decides to tell God she did what she had to, in order to survive.

1963[]

Beth Ann tells Sheila about the fake illness she told to Rob. To make it believable, they consult to a doctor and come up with an illness. Beth Ann tells Rob that she has a cancer affecting her soft tissues and that she has 6 months to live. Rob tries to get second opinion from another doctor but Beth Ann refuses.

While on the road, she tries to help April on her pregnancy and how to raise it but she refuses her help. Beth Ann finds out later on that she's taking April to an apartment go get an abortion. She tries to convince April that she shouldn't abort the baby but April gets mad at her trying to convince her not to abort. Beth Ann decides to tell her about her daughter and how she died; her daughter got out of the gate Beth Ann forgot to close and got hit by the car. April becomes even more mad but is later convinced and they get out.

Beth Ann decides to help April by selling Rob's former sports equipments. Sheila suggests that April can put her child to adoption but Beth Ann thinks she might raise April's child and she becomes delusional with the idea. Sheila disapproves of her plan but Beth Ann gets angry at her, telling her she can't judge her.

April appears at Rob's office and tells him she's pregnant. In the evening, Beth Ann receives a call from April where she tells her that she told Rob about her pregnancy and that he proposes her, saying she has to wait for 6 months. As Beth Ann crosses the street, she faints.

1984[]

As Simone and Tommy prepare for their trip, she gives him back the brooch and tells him he has to find a way to surprise her. Simone and Karl attend a party where Simone meets Maureen, a nurse. She tells Simone that Karl is gay and has HIV. Simone doesn't believe at first but Maureen points out that he is the third man who visited the clinic and that the other two died.

As the party ended, Karl confronts Simone and about her foul mood. She reveals to him that a nurse told her that he is sick and gets emotional. Karl tries to comfort her but she decided to stay and help him get treated on his condition.

Later that same night, Tommy appears at their mansion but she tells him about Karl's condition and decides to stay at Pasadena, helping Karl.Tommy tries to convince her but she refuses. Angry, he grabs a bottle and drives away.

Shortly after, Simone receives a call from Naomi that Tommy got into a car accident and was drunk driving. She also calls her to get her purse. As Simone arrives with Naomi's purse, she tells her she knows about Karl's illness and is worried that Simone might have gotten it. They are later told that Naomi can see Tommy now. But as she looks at his wounded body, she notices a tattoo of Simone. She then realizes that his son is having sex with her.

2019[]

Taylor meets up with Jade and tries to convince her that she should help her stop Eli from his addiction by getting all the passwords about his accounts so that he won't receive any money and stop him from spending other stuff and drugs. She also thinks of calling his father, so that he can force Eli to admit how he became addicted again. Jade points out that Eli might get angry and decides to tell him to stop his addiction.

Later on, Eli returns and gives Jade a car as a gift. Taylor receives a call that her credit car got maxed out. She returns home and finds Jade with a new car. She tries to remind her about his spending habits after getting high and forces her to give her the keys so she can return the car. Jade refuses and they argue. Jade points out that she has helped Eli work on his script. Taylor realizes that it was Jade who made him return to his addiction. Jade tries to deny by seducing her but Taylor refuses her advances. She kicks Jade out but refuses.

Eli returns home later and finds Jade crying. She admits to him about Taylor's plan to stop him from receiving money. She then tells him that Taylor also planned to tell his father about his addiction. Eli becomes angry and decides to change the locks.

In order to get leverage, Taylor visits Duke in prison and bribes him to tell everything he knows about Jade in exchange for his freedom. He tell her that Jade is not her real name and reveals more about her.

Epilogue[]

April talks to her mother over the phone, Tommy is comatose in the hospital bed and Jade sees a text from Taylor in Eli's phone and blocks her.
