Mary and Ralph have a complicated relationship. He’s physically abusive to her, and becomes easily jealous. He’ll get angry if he sees her talking to other men, instantly assuming she’s flirting with or trying to seduce them. He likes to threaten her with a loaded gun he keeps in his bedside drawer to make her stay.
